Further information
Southern Sound Hospital Radio was launched at the Southern General Hospital on 24th April 1995 by Alistair McCoist MBE, then of Rangers Football Club.
It was formerly known as Centre Hospital Radio and based at Philipshill Hospital. That service was launched in May 1974 by Steve Jones, then morning presenter with Radio Clyde - which means the service is well over 30 years old.
We have three purpose built studios. Studios 1 & 2 are the main self-drive broadcast studios & studio 3 is a full Logic Pro digital studio which is used for drama & recording live music sessions. It contains a control room and versatile recording studio.
The station, like most hospital radio stations, is manned totally by volunteers of all ages, & our aim is to deliver a professional radio service to the Southern General Hospital. Requests are collected earlier in the day from the wards & are played on our evening programmes.
