Further information
Working with the nursing staff and play leaders, Radio Rainbow aims to provide a truly local radio station for the patients at The Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital. Children are encouraged to interact with Rainbow through studio visits, phone-ins, competitions and a daily request show. The station celebrated its fifteenth birthday in 2007 and is managed by Grampian Hospital Radio.
Live broadcasting takes place between 1730 and 2100 on weekdays and almost all day at weekends with a digital jukebox managing output at other times. Output is targeted at children up to fifteen and consists of a mix of chart and recent hits, chat, entertainment news, stories and nursery rhymes. There is a daily request show between 1900 and 2100. The station broadcasts from a purpose built, state-of-the-art studio in the new RACH building.
Volunteer opportunities include presenting and ward visiting (request collecting) but a wider range of is activities available at Rainbow’s parent station, GHR.
