Further information
The idea for a hospital radio station in West Lothian was born in 1987, when a group of keen enthusiasts got together to map a way for the new station.
In 1991, West Lothian had a brand new hospital, St John's Hospital at Howden in Livingston New Town and West Lothian's first hospital radio station. In 1995 Radio Grapevine was broadcasting for 6 hours a week with a very small membership. However, member numbers grew very rapidly and broadcasting quickly stepped up to 7 days a week.
1999 saw Radio Grapevine go on air 24 hours-a-day, 7 days a week. And with an ever-increasing membership, live shows were broadcast every weekday evening and at weekends. Launching its first web site in 2001, giving basic information on hospital radio, their web site continues to attract many visitors and today offers friends and relatives the opportunity to make requests or dedications for the patients of St John's.
Every night of the year, their dedicated request collectors receive music choices from patients, friends, relatives and staff, for the request show. Click on the Radio Grapevine web site link to find out more.
Today Radio Grapevine continues to demonstrate its community based approach, attending numerous Gala and Fun Days and special events throughout West Lothian. A Highly Commended station by the Hospital Broadcasting Association, Radio Grapevine delivers entertaining entertainment to those unfortunate enough to be in St John's. Making the patients stay far more comfortable. Hospital Radio in West Lothian is growing stronger day by day - that's Radio Grapevine!
